The wet and windy weather of the weekend came to a perfect close with the start of the baseball season in Anchorage.

As many baseball fans gathered to remember one of the biggest baseball icons in Alaska history “Lefty” Van Brunt, a comfortable air graced Mulcahy stadium. The calm breeze with brilliant sun breaks was not only befitting of such an Alaska baseball legend, but it’s sure to usher in the beginning of yet another streak of sunny & warm weather over the Southcentral region and most of Alaska. What could be better for ballgames?

High pressure is building in the southern Gulf as a low in the Bering Sea is losing it’s gusto. This means sunny days with warmer temperatures will make a comeback tonight and even more so for the workweek over most of the state. The exception is the Northslope where chilly temperatures will prevail, and the Alaska Peninsula where rain showers will continue.

So enjoy the return of summer, at least for our standards. And let the games begin. The gusty winds are all but a distant memory now, unlike that of the late great “Lefty” Van Brunt. May baseball fans everywhere relish in sunshine all week, enjoying their peanuts and crackerjacks.

And if I blow this forecast then it’s one, two, three strikes I’m out at the old ball game!
