Anticipate light showers to the Southeast and sunny skies elsewhere. A large winter storm off the west coast will finally make landfall tonight bringing a Blizzard Warning until 6 a.m. for Bethel. This condition causes reduced visibility due to winds and blowing snow. By tomorrow, Nome, Unalaska, Kodiak will all be affected by this storm producing widespread snow showers and winds. In South Central, it has been a beautiful day to catch some sunshine; however this condition will only be a brief moment to get your Vitamin D. By tomorrow afternoon, Anchorage, Valdez, Seward, Girdwood, Glennallen, Palmer, Wasilla, Willow, and Talkeetna will encounter increased cloud cover and snow showers. This is good news for weather fans who anticipate breaking the 132.8 inch Anchorage seasonal record! The Interior will be getting a cold blast at Prudhoe Bay with a Wind-Chill Warning for –75 degrees, which is cold with a capital C! Their only perk is severe cold comes with mostly sunny skies. Fairbanks will have snow showers in the afternoon and a warm high temperature of 4 degrees. Looks like snow showers are forecasted this week for Anchorage. Specifically, the showers start in the afternoon on Monday then taper off by Tuesday with isolated snow showers around the Anchorage Bowl. On Wednesday snow showers start again. Thursday will display very similar weather as today…it will be beautiful and snow-free. Enjoy it while it lasts because snow will make a second round on Friday and continue throughout the weekend. High temperatures will fluctuate between the 20s and 30s. Low temperatures will begin at 5 degrees on Monday night and increase to the teens. I’m looking forward for clear skies tonight with maybe a cloud or two over Anchorage. The moon’s illumination tonight will be at 85 percent. For people to the north, auroral activity will be moderate. On Monday, if you live as far south as Talkeetna all the way up to Barrow, the night skies will light up. If you’re lucky enough to reside where a winter storm is not affecting your skies, enjoy the light display!
