It's better late then never right? That system moving out of the Southwest finally touched down last night in the Anchorage area producing us with another 2.3 inches to write down. Currently we are sitting at 126 inches and only need 6.8 inches to tie that record and 6.9 to overpower it.

This recent winter storm dropped 3 to 6 inches across the Southwest and will drop another several additional inches possible throughout today. Snow will lighten up tonight into tomorrow morning. However, high pressure will build this weekend causing that bitter cold to hold on across the region allowing temperatures to drop almost 20 degrees below normal. The North Slope, Northwest and Southwest communities will hit a dry spell, not seeing too much precipitation at all as we head into the weekend.

In Southcentral, light snow will continue throughout the afternoon tuning into a mostly cloudy evening. Across the Cook Inlet region and even northeastern Prince William Sound, snow will start to taper off as your heading to lunch today. It's almost funny how fast the great Alaska weather changes so quickly. We are going from a pretty significant winter storm to partly cloudy conditions in less than 12 hours. Homer and the Kenai Peninsula will get a nice dose of sunny skies allowing them some time to start digging out.

In Anchorage those clouds won't move too much, but we'll see calm after the storm. Cloud coverage will continue throughout the week, with slight chances for snow. As far as accumulation, I don't see too much of that happening. As I said yesterday, I would love us to beat that record, however there is a time and place for everything. That being said, I don't think it will happen this week. Temperatures will remain in the mid 20s and overnights, falling down by Thursday to the single digits. Cold air is making it's way in, with little moisture behind it. This will be a great time to go enjoy some winter sports activities because before you know it this current 126" of snow will be melted away.

Roads are still slick from freezing rain this morning so please take it slow.
