Storms continue to brew, along with storm totals adding up. Currently in the Anchorage area we are staying predominantly dry at this hour but things are headed for a change. Winter Weather Advisories have been issued for the Anchorage area and surrounding regions for 9pm tonight until Thursday for an accumulation of 4-8 and another 5-10 inches tomorrow.
This storm will take over all portions of the Southcentral bringing snow and even rain to some areas. Let's take a look at some predicted totals before the storm tonight.
Palmer: 2-5"
Sutton : 2-5"
Homer: 5-9"
Seward: 3-6"
Valdez: 5-10"
Cordova: Rain & Snow 3-6"
Talkeetna: 4-8"
Kodiak: 1"
(These totals don't include Thursday.)
This secondary low will continue to persist through Thursday before high pressure from the west begins to filter in. Cold air is on the backside of this complex storm which will cause for even more heavy moisture tonight into tomorrow. Winds will start to calm along Turnagain Arm and Higher Elevations as we head into this afternoon.
A whopping 9-18 inches is possible for the Anchorage and Hillside area after this storm starts to end late Thursday. Even in the Matanuska Valley we could see up to 2 feet.
Cordova and Valdez seem to be the big concern where rain is making an appearence today. This is making things even harder to clean up in the area with heavy moisture continuing to take over. Tonight brings another foot of snow for Thompson pass into Valdez.

The great news is YES! That cold air on the backside of the storm we talked about earlier is moving in and wants our attention. On Friday will see the start of dry weather producing sunny skies but that bitter chill returns. This will allow us enough time get things cleared up.
Daytime highs will be in the upper 30's today in Anchorage with overnight lows falling to the lower 20's. Not bad temperatures but lets get ready for some snow.
