A Low pressure system continues to track slowly along the Alaska Peninsula causing mixed rain and snow showers for the Southwest, South Central, and south of the ALCAN Border. Winds will occur over South Central and the Seward Peninsula. By Monday this Low will fizzle out and a new Low will push over the Gulf toward the Southeast creating mixed showers for South Central and the southern region of the ALCAN Border. Winds will occur over the Alaska Peninsula. Yet again, this Low will die out by Tuesday and widespread showers will occur all over the Southwest due to another large Low pressure system tracking along the Aleutians that creates strong winds for all of the Southwest and South Central.

The North Slope has the most moderate weather throughout the State of Alaska. Over the Southeast on Monday, Juneau will experience rain showers in the morning that taper off by afternoon with a low temperature of 33 degrees. Prudhoe Bay will have patchy fog with snow flurries and Fairbanks will experience mostly sunny skies. West AK will have snow showers. Nome starts off with flurries in the morning that intensify by the afternoon. Low temperatures will drop to a warm 20 degrees. For residents of the Southwest, hold on to your snow caps because it is going to get windy and Mother Nature will sprinkle you with snow and rain showers. The good news is you are getting springtime low temperatures in the 30 degree range. Rain and snow will be falling all over the Kenai Peninsula with some strong winds over Portage Valley and Turnagain Arm. The eastern portion of the peninsula can expect 3 to 6 inches of snow on Monday. Up in the Matsu Valley, residents can expect straight snow showers and cloudy to mostly cloudy sky conditions. On Monday, the most hazardous weather in Alaska will occur near Valdez with a Blizzard Warning during the morning causing reduced visibility and windy conditions. For residents of Valdez, I suggest staying home for safety reasons because you can expect severe blowing snow and 6 inches of snowfall.

Tonight, low temperatures for the Anchorage Bowl will drop into the 20s with mostly cloudy skies and strong winds for Turnagain Arm and Hillside. On Monday morning these strong winds will persist until the afternoon and high temperatures will reach into the high-30s. Partly sunny skies with light snow showers will greet you on Monday. Winds will blow at a 20 mph rate. All these weather conditions will cease just in time for Valentine’s Day on Tuesday yielding a gorgeous forecast of partly sunny skies that will last until Sunday then changing to cloudy skies. Over the mountains, isolated snow showers will occur on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. The high temperature for this week will happen on Monday at 35 degrees and the low temperature will take place on the weekend in the high-10s.

Valentine’s Day occurs in two days and Mother Nature has graced us with spring like temperatures. Take advantage of this week and spend it with someone special and enjoy the good weather. Ignore the brown runoff on roads from snow melt and watch out for ice!
