Well we have certainly gotten the month of May off to a cool start.  The average high the first 13 days of the month in Anchorage was 49 degrees.  The normal average high for the first 13 days is 53.2 degrees.  We are going to see a big change in fortune this week as temperatures will climb above normal by the end of the week.   A ridge of high pressure will overtake most of the state and that will mean sunnier skies and warmer temperatures for much of Alaska.  Extreme western Alaska will be sitting on the backside of this ridge and will likely be the only part of the state avoiding the sunshine.

7 Day Forecast For Anchorage

Overnight skies will clear with lows in the 30s.  Tuesday through Friday will be sunny with highs early in the week in the mid 50s then by Thursday and Friday in the low 60s.  Saturday through Monday look great with mostly sunny skies and highs near 60.

Alaska extremes for Monday.  The hot spot the past 12 hours was Annette where it hit 59 degrees.  The cold spots the past 24 hours were Kotzebue and Kivalina where it dipped to 17 degrees.
