January 2013 climate numbers for Anchorage, Annette, Barrow, Bethel, Cold Bay, Fairbanks, Juneau, King Salmon, Kodiak, Kotzebue, McGrath, Nome, St. Paul, Valdez, & Yakutat.  These numbers were compiled from data from the National Weather Service.

You will notice from the numbers that the entire state saw above normal temperatures the first month of the year.  Snowfall was above normal for much of the western half of the state and below normal for the eastern half of the state.   

Anchorage -  for the month Anchorage had an average high of  27.1 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 23.2 degrees.  As for snow 14.7’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 11.3’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Anchorage saw 1.22’’.  The average for the month is 0.73’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month. 

Annette -  for the month Annette had an average high of 43.3 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 41.6 degrees.  As for snow 0.5’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 7.6’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Annette saw 8.01’’.  The average for the month is 10.73’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded. 

Barrow -  for the month Barrow had an average high of –4.6 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is –7.3 degrees.  As for snow 3.7’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 2.6’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Barrow saw 0.06’’.  The average for the month is 0.13’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month. 

Bethel -  for the month Bethel had an average high of 20.9 degrees. The normal average high for the month is 12.5 degrees.  As for snow 13.3’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 9.6’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Bethel saw 1.35’’.  The average for the month is 0.78’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month.

Cold Bay-  for the month Cold Bay had an average high of 36.9 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 33.1 degrees.  As for snow 18.3’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 14.1’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Cold Bay saw 3.59’’.  The average for the month is 3.16’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded. 

Fairbanks-  for the month Fairbanks had an average high of 6.6 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 1.1 degrees.  As for snow 9.9’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 10.3’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Fairbanks saw 0.79’’.  The average for the month is 0.58’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month. 

Juneau -  for the month Juneau had an average high of 34.7 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 33.1 degrees.  As for snow 17.8’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 26.7’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Juneau saw 7.70’’.  The average for the month is 5.35’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month.
