January 2011 Climate NumbersMost of the state was a bit milder than normal.La Nina winters are supposed to bring colder than normal temperatures for much of the state. But you'll notice from the numbers below that so far that hasn't been the case. These numbers are not official. I compiled them using data from the National Weather Service. ANCHORAGE January 2011 had an average high of 23.1 degrees. The normal average high is 22.2 degrees. As for precipitation 0.56'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 0.68''. Snowfall for the month added up to 7.3''. The normal January value for Anchorage is 10.3''. No record highs or lows were recorded for the month. ANNETTE January 2011 had an average high of 39.9 degrees. The normal average high is 39.7 degrees. As for precipitation 10.24'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 9.67''. Snowfall for the month added up to 1.7''. The normal January value for Annette is 11.3''. No record highs or lows were recorded for the month. BARROW January 2011 had an average high of -2.2 degrees. The normal average high is -7.7 degrees. As for precipitation 0.20'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 0.12''. Snowfall for the month added up to 5.4''. The normal January value for Barrow is 2.0''. No record lows were recorded for the month, but two daily record highs were set. The thermometer hit 33 degrees on Jan. 9th and it hit 28 degrees on Jan. 10th. BETHEL January 2011 had an average high of 18.4 degrees. The normal average high is 12.4 degrees. As for precipitation 0.86'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 0.62''. Snowfall for the month added up to 10.0''. The normal January value for Bethel is 7.0''. No record highs or lows were recorded for the month. COLD BAY January 2011 had an average high of 35.6 degrees. The normal average high is 32.8 degrees. As for precipitation 3.91'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 3.08''. Snowfall for the month added up to 12.5''. The normal January value for Cold Bay is 13.9''. A daily record low was recorded on January 17th when it dipped to 1 degree. A daily record high was set on January 19th when it hit 45 degrees. FAIRBANKS January 2011 had an average high of 4.0 degrees. The normal average high is -0.3 degrees. As for precipitation 0.19'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 0.56''. Snowfall for the month added up to 3.1''. The normal January value for Fairbanks is 8.1''. No lows were recorded for the month. A daily record high was set on January 2nd when it hit 41 degrees. JUNEAU January 2011 had an average high of 31.5 degrees. The normal average high is 30.6 degrees. As for precipitation 5.26'' of rain and/or melted snow was measured. The average is 4.81''. Snowfall for the month added up to 15.5''. The normal January value for Juneau is 28.9''. No record lows were recorded for the month. A record high was set on January 26th when it hit 43 degrees. |
