The weather has continued to improve for much of south central after the rain yesterday.  The fourth of July is also looking pretty nice.  We did see some convective activity over the mountains this afternoon and evening helping to spark off some showers.  In meteorology convection normally refers to the vertical movement of air (advection is the horizontal movement of air).  The reason we see the showers forming over the mountains is that in order to have cloud formation you need upward lift.  The mountains help to lift the warm air at the surface and as it rises and cools the clouds and showers form over the mountains.  This activity looks to continue in south central the next couple of days.  Into the southeast, well, at least your weather has been consistent and will remain consistent with more rain the next few days.  That same can be said in the Interior where the hit and miss showers and isolated thunderstorms will continue the next few days.  Out west a pretty good sized system will begin to move onshore out of the northwest.  This is going to bring rain and cooler temperatures into the region through the middle part of the week.
