Today drivers were introduced to slippery conditions after being hit last night with a freezing rain advisory. That advisory was lifted this morning, however it still made for rough conditions around town.

Freezing Rain happens when precipitation falls in liquid form as raindrops and immediately freezes as it hits a surface. Last night light freezing rain fell along the mountains causing very hazardous driving conditions. Areas around the Anchorage area were not effected, but it did cause issues for many residents coming from Hillside, and the Eagle River area. Along with slick roadways, the winds still were brewing for Turnagain Arm and the Girdwood area with gust up to 55 mph.

Across the Anchorage area temperatures were well above normal, with many spots across Northeast Anchorage hitting 40 degrees before 7a.m. The warmer conditions were a nice surprise but made driving very difficult.

Be aware Anchorage, temperatures are above freezing right now allowing things to melt. However, please use caution tonight as temperatures will fall once again to the mid 20's allowing things to refreeze.

Our next system will be coming out of the Southeast where by mid-afternoon rain will start to enter the Panhandle. Temperatures will remain in the upper 30' s to 40's.

The winds will start to die off if your in the Southcentral and a glimpse of sunshine will move in for a moment. Tonight a little more clouds start to move in turning things into mostly cloudy conditions.

Be safe out driving today Alaska.
