Went to bed last night and it was raining. Woke up in the morning and it was raining. That's the first time in quite awhile I've been able to say that. Most of southcentral got the good soaking that we had been touting for the last few days. Radar estimated storm totals put most of the area between a third and two thirds of an inch of rain, with a few backyards on either side of that range.
The soaking wiped out a good chunk of the deficit we have been running for quite some time. Officially, the NWS is reporting 0.48" fell in Anchorage, down from 0.53" earlier today. That 0.05" is significant, because the old record for the day stood at 0.50" from all the way back in 1921. Either way, it's a lot of rain!
So here's the hope for the remainder of the holiday weekend for folks here in Anchorage. Two areas of rainfall; one to our west (the stuff we saw this morning) and one to our east. In between, mostly cloudy skies persists. Models are keeping us in between these two predominant areas of rain, but are still hinting at decent moisture lingering in between...almost to the point where Anchorage could see more decent rainfall. I'm not quite buying it, so I'm still calling for mostly cloudy skies with ISOLATED showers. Think more along the lines of what we experienced the second half of today rather than the first.
