December 2012 climate numbers for Anchorage, Annette, Barrow, Bethel, Cold Bay, Fairbanks, Juneau, King Salmon, Kodiak, Kotzebue, McGrath, Nome, St. Paul, Valdez, & Yakutat.

These numbers were compiled from data from the National Weather Service. You will notice from the numbers that the entire state saw below normal temperatures even with the big warm up the last few days of 2012 over southern Alaska.  Snowfall was a little more variable around Alaska.  A large chunk of the state saw above normal snowfall.  The exceptions were the extreme northwestern part of the state.  And there was also a swath of below normal snow that stretched from St. Paul eastward to Valdez and Yakutat. 

Anchorage -  for the month Anchorage had an average high of  20.1 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 24.8 degrees.  As for snow 18.2’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 16.7’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Anchorage saw 1.83’’.  The average for the month is 1.11’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month. 

Annette -  for the month Annette had an average high of 39.3 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 41.5 degrees.  As for snow 11.4’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 8.1’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Annette saw 8.21’’.  The average for the month is 10.72’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded. 

Barrow -  for the month Barrow had an average high of –4.4 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is –1.8 degrees.  As for snow 3.9’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 3.5’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Barrow saw 0.07’’.  The average for the month is 0.14’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month. 

Bethel -  for the month Bethel had an average high of 10.9 degrees. The normal average high for the month is 16.9 degrees.  As for snow 11.5’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 11.4’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Bethel saw 1.10’’.  The average for the month is 1.12’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month.

Cold Bay-  for the month Cold Bay had an average high of 32.9 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 35.6 degrees.  As for snow 13.4’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 12.6’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Cold Bay saw 3.67’’.  The average for the month is 4.46’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded. 

Fairbanks-  for the month Fairbanks had an average high of –8.9 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 4.8 degrees.  As for snow 18.6’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 12.1’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Fairbanks saw 1.19’’.  The average for the month is 0.64’’.  A daily record high of 41 degrees was recorded on December 31st.  No daily record lows were recorded for the month. 

Juneau -  for the month Juneau had an average high of 28.8 degrees.  The normal average high for the month is 34.1 degrees.  As for snow 27.0’’ fell.  The average snowfall for the month is 15.6’’.  As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Juneau saw 4.92’’.  The average for the month is 5.84’’.  No daily record highs or lows were recorded for the month.
