2011 December climate numbers for Anchorage, Annette, Barrow, Bethel, Cold Bay, Fairbanks, Juneau, King Salmon, Kodiak, Kotzebue, McGrath, Nome, St. Paul, Valdez, & Yakutat. These numbers were compiled from data from the National Weather Service.

Anchorage - for the month Anchorage had an average high of 28.6 degrees. The normal average high for the month is 23.8 degrees. As for snow 31.1’’ fell making it the 7th snowiest December on record. The average snowfall in December is 20.5’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Anchorage saw 2.66’’. The average for the month is 1.12’’. No daily record lows or highs were recorded for the month.

Annette - for the month Annette had an average high of 41.7 degrees. The normal average high for the month is 41.5 degrees. As for snow 2.9’’ fell. The average snowfall in December is 8.1’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Annette saw 10.28’’. The average for the month is 10.72’’. No daily record lows or highs were recorded for the month.

Barrow - for the month Barrow had an average high of –4.3 degrees. The normal average high for the month is –1.8 degrees. As for snow 15.8’’ fell. The average snowfall in December is 3.5’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Barrow saw 0.60’’. The average for the month is 0.14’’. No daily record lows or highs were recorded for the month. However on December 4th Barrow picked up 0.33’’ of precip. adding up to 6.5’’ of snow. This was the greatest calendar 24 hour precip. & snowfall amount for any day in the month of December ever for Barrow.

Bethel - for the month Bethel had an average high of 18.4 degrees. (This average high excludes Dec. 30th due to an error in recording the high temperature for that day.) The normal average high for the month is 16.9 degrees. As for snow 10.2’’ fell. The average snowfall in December is 11.4’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Bethel saw 1.22’’. The average for the month is 1.12’’. No daily record lows or highs were recorded for the month.

Cold Bay- for the month Cold Bay had an average high of 34.3 degrees. The normal average high for the month is 35.7 degrees. As for snow 8.9’’ fell. The average snowfall in December is 12.6’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Cold Bay saw 6.22’’. The average for the month is 4.46’’. A daily record low of 3 degrees was recorded on December 28th.

Fairbanks- for the month Fairbanks had an average high of 14.4 degrees. The normal average high for the month is –12.9 degrees. As for snow 12.2’’ fell. The average snowfall in December is 12.1’’. As for total precipitation (rain and melted snow) Fairbanks saw 0.95’’. The average for the month is 0.64’’. No daily record lows or highs were recorded for the month.
