Leaves will surely be falling this weekend as we say goodbye to the serene autumn conditions that the month of September brought to us. As October approaches no costumes will be needed as Mother Nature unleashes some gusty winds and rain over the Southwest portions of Alaska first, and then over the Southcentral region by this weekend.

For tonight however, expect a few showers over the Kenai Peninsula, the Anchorage Bowl, and the Mat-Su Valley. Those showers will slowly taper off after midnight at which point a little fog will settle in. Then as the last day of Sept comes to a close those clouds will move right back in over the Southcentral Region with wet and windy weather on tap for your weekend.   The Storm responsible is currently over the Alaska Peninsula. It will slowly begin approaching Homer by Friday afternoon. Along with it expect some gusty Southeast winds. Temperatures will remain in the upper 40’s for highs with a few spots dipping to the freezing mark overnight.

Wet and windy weather will also continue over the Southeast Panhandle as yet another low exits the picture. Temperatures however, will remain mild with a few 50’s expected for daytime highs.

In the meantime, nicer and party sunny weather will be moving in from the Northwest. This means areas like Kotzebue, Nome, Barrow, and Fairbanks will not only see more cool Autumn weather, but starlit skies as well. But if you haven’t dusted off the winter parka yet, now would be the time to do it. Temperatures will drop into the 20’s overnight!

Enjoy what’s left of September. You know what October means!
