A massive winter storm moves toward South Central. Currently, this storm inundates the Southwest with strong winds and snow/rain showers. These conditions are the prequel before the storm. By tomorrow on Sunday, this extreme storm will travel right over South Central bringing severe weather to the Southwest and South Central. Expect rain/snow showers for the Southwest with strong winds for Unalaska and windy conditions for Kodiak. South Central will get slammed with a Blizzard Warning for Valdez consisting of blowing snow and possible whiteout conditions. Fluctuating visibility will cause some very dangerous conditions, so stay inside and be careful if you must go outside. The Kenai Peninsula will experience winds tomorrow with rain/snow showers. Portage Valley will encounter Blizzard Warning conditions. Up in the Matsu Valley, there will be windy conditions for Glennallen, Wasilla, and Palmer with the combinations of snowfall and blowing snow. Talkeetna will have considerable amounts of snowfall and approximately 6 to 12 inches of snow accumulation yielding a Winter Weather Warning for heavy snowfall. Down in the Anchorage Bowl, it’s going to be windy with Blizzard Warning conditions for the Turnagain Arm and Hillside areas. If you reside in the higher elevations, expect blizzard/hazardous weather so stay inside until the storm passes. Expect 2-inches of snow tonight and 2-inches of snow accumulation tomorrow under windy conditions producing blowing snow. Residents of the Southwest and South Central should keep safe and be cautious during this severe winter storm.

The remainder of Alaska will experience seasonal weather of snow showers. Juneau will have snow showers in the afternoon and patchy fog. Expect light flurries for Prudhoe Bay and snow showers for Fairbanks with patchy fog. The West will encounter winds and snow showers. There will be cooler temperatures over Nome plummeting to –18 degrees, so dust off your parkas. You will need them tomorrow!

Snow showers over Anchorage will diminish by Monday and we will see a few snowflakes on Tuesday. The good news is on Tuesday when clouds will scatter to mostly cloudy skies. Unfortunately, since the clouds will be scattering, we will experience a dip in low temperatures to the teens. For the rest of the week, there will be beautiful mostly cloudy skies. During the weekend, colder air attacks through the pass bringing cold snap temperatures back into the Anchorage Bowl. Prepare to dress warmly next weekend!
