Weather
Another Storm Is A-Comin'We get a day break when things quiet down today, but a huge mess to clean up around the Southcentral.
After we get over one storm yet another one is quickly making an appearance. Yet again another pretty large system is currently brewing over the Alaska Peninsula and continues to move northward.
The system we saw over the weekend produced record snow over the Anchorage area and Northeastern Prince William Sound is still lingering over the Panhandle today. This was a major storm bringing Anchorage 5.9 inches of new snow just yesterday beating the daily snowfall record. Over two feet for the Cordova area and 19 inches for Valdez. We get a day break when things quiet down today, but a huge mess to clean up around the Southcentral. This next system along with moisture will bring serious winds. High wind warnings have been issued for Turnagain Arm and higher elevations with possible gust to 75 mph. Another foot of snow is possible for Cordova along with rain. These winds will continue over the the Southcentral possibly producing another Chinook. Temperatures will start to rise overnight causing an increase in daytime highs tomorrow into Wednesday. This again could make for a sloppy situation with rain mixing in with snow. From this storm we could see another 2-4 inches in Anchorage. With the potential of another Chinook, there is the risk of possible flooding. What a way to start off the week Alaska, just remember after the storm comes quiet. By Friday will be on our way to a cold dry spell. |
