The South Central Region managed to eek out yet another nice day on Wednesday. But change is in the air. Unfortunately, clouds have already moved in, and rain will continue to fall over the Kenai Peninsula though Friday. The coastal areas along Prince William Sound will get the brunt of the rain as the Anchorage Bowl is set up for a little downsloping with snow at the higher elevations of the mountains. The arriving culprit is a low in the Bering Sea with an attached front across Kodiak Island and the Western Gulf that is slowly moving North. Wet weather, or at least the threat of it, will stick around until Friday. To make matters worse, gusty East winds will be blowing to about 45 miles per hour along Turnagain Arm and higher elevations of the Anchorage Hillside (with any kind of luck those winds will blow the rest of those fallen leaves over into your neighbors yard)!!
The good news is by this weekend High Pressure will build in behind this low which means a better forecast for your weekend and a return to sunshine. In the meantime, temperatures tonight will be warmer and above freezing with mid 30's to low 40's.
Seems all that cloud coverage is good for something!!
Wet weather will also be noted along the entire Southern Coastline from Unalaska to Cordova.
The Southeast Panhandle gets a well deserved break, but the it won't last long as the same front gradually moves toward Juneau by Friday.
If you're chasing the sunshine then head to the Interior (but don't forget your parka). Partly to Mostly Cloudy skies are expected for Fairbanks, Galena, and Mcgrath. And while daytime highs will be topping out in the low 40's, the overnight lows will be dropping into the 20's! That same forecast is also expected for Kotzebue and Nome.
But who's going to complain about the weather?!! After all, it's PFD time!!! And let's be honest. No rain, gusty winds, or even a dumping a snow (if it was in the forecast) is going to stop Alaskans from spending it! So enjoy your day and happy shopping!! Remember "Ours is not to reason why. Ours is but to shop and buy!" |
