VIDEO: AGDC provides update on gas pipeline projects

By KTVA CBS 11 News 4:42 PM October 1, 2015
ANCHORAGE –

The State of Alaska is planning to spend billions of dollars, all with the end goal of building a natural gas pipeline.

The project has the potential to ease Alaska’s high energy costs, but it comes with a big price tag during a time of budget deficits.

The Alaska Gasline Development Corporation is tasked with overseeing the design and implementation of the project.

Miles Baker, vice president of external affairs and government relations, sat down with KTVA to talk about the status of two pipeline projects and why, in his perspective, the cost is worth it.

There are two competing projects: AKLNG and ASAP.

AGDC is making the $60 million AKLNG project the priority and shelving the $10 million ASAP.

Baker says ASAP will be kept in a state of readiness in case AKLNG falls through and the state needs this backup plan.
