Uncertain future for golf course

By Dave Detling 10:43 PM February 14, 2014

JBER officials review operating costs

ANCHORAGE - Eagleglen Golf Course is closed for the season and some members in the golfing community are worried it might not reopen.

Alaska Golf Association contacted KTVA after corresponding with officials at Joint Base Elemdorf-Richardson regarding the course.

Executive director Jeff Barnhart said the closure of Eagleglen would impact a number of golfing clubs, charity organizations and golfers.

“The course is a recreational venue for the community,” Barnhart said. “We want to see it stay.”

JBER hasn’t made a final decision.

JBER  officials said they are currently reviewing the cost of doing business, adding, “these types of programs are intended to be self-sustaining and ideally revenue generating. We also work with the community to not inadvertently divert patrons from activities they sponsor to our own.”

Eagleglen’s website shows no upcoming events for the golf course through 2014.
