UAA to host 2015 MPSF gymnastic championships

By KTVA Sports 2:56 PM July 24, 2014

The University of Alaska Anchorage gymnastics team will host six meets at its brand-new home in the Alaska Airlines Center in 2015, including the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in March, head coach Paul Stoklos announced Thursday.

The Seawolves begin with their annual Green & Gold instrasquad meet Dec. 13, while the regular season gets under way Jan. 8 against Winona State. Centenary invades for dual meets on Feb. 27 and March 1, and the home campaign concludes March 21 when UAA hosts the MPSF Championships for the first time in its 13 years of league membership.

“This is an extremely exciting time for our program with the opening of the Alaska Airlines Center and the chance to host MPSFs for the first time,” said Stoklos, who begins 31 years with the Seawolves this fall. “I feel our schedule is very challenging and will have us ready to peak at the end of the year.”

The Seawolves will make six road appearances in 2015 — covering all four Lower 48 time zones — starting with a quad meet at the Ozone Collegiate Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee Jan. 17. UAA will also travel to MPSF rivals Seattle Pacific Jan. 30 and Air Force March 9, plus trips to the Harley Davidson Invitational in Milwaukee Feb. 13, Northern Illinois Feb. 15 and Boise State March 6.

The NCAA Division I West Regional Championships are set for April 4 in Berkeley, California.
