Troopers search for vehicle in Fairbanks hit-and-run

By KTVA CBS 11 News 2:24 PM June 3, 2014
ANCHORAGE –

Two men face a litany of criminal charges following a Steese Highway street race early Monday morning, according to Alaska State Troopers.

Fairbanks resident Andrew Hendrix, 18, was arrested on counts of third-degree assault, DUI, leaving the scene, failure to provide immediate notification of an accident, tampering with physical evidence, operating a vehicle while underage drinking, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

According to AST dispatch, Trooper Bryan Spears was attempting to make a traffic stop on a vehicle racing on the Steese Highway when he was rear-ended by a silver Volkswagon Golf. Hendrix — the car’s owner — was arrested along with 20-year-old Fairbanks resident James Davenport.

Davenport faces charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle while underage drinking, according to troopers. He was also cited for racing.

Fairbanks troopers are still searching for the silver car that rear-ended Spears, and said anyone with information on its location is asked to call 907-451-5100.
