Troopers search for detention center escapees

Willy-Joe Batchelder and Shawn Murphy walked away from the Northstar Center Monday, troopers said.

ANCHORAGE – Alaska State Troopers are searching for two men who escaped from a Fairbanks detention center Monday.

According to trooper dispatch, 25-year-old Fairbanks resident Willy-Joe Batchelder and 38-year-old North Pole resident Shawn Murphy both walked away from the Northstar Center, a residential detention center. Batchelder faces a charge of second-degree escape and Murphy faces a charge of fourth-degree escape.

Troopers said anyone with information about their whereabouts is asked to call 907-451-5100.
