The name of an Alaska State Trooper involved in a fatal shooting in Homer has been released.
AST said David Chaffin, a five-year veteran of the force, became involved in a scuffle while responding to a domestic assault call Wednesday.
Chaffin made several attempts to subdue the suspect, 24-year-old Aaron Michael Rael-Catholic, troopers said. After attempts to taser and pepper spray Rael-Catholic failed, troopers said, he began to struggle with Chaffin, eventually grabbing the trooper’s gun and shooting himself.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigation continues to investigate the incident, troopers said.
