Travel Tuesday with Scott McMurren
ANCHORAGE – While some Alaskans head south for the winter, others ride the Alaska Railroad north.
Travel Guru Scott McMurren said the railroad’s weekly Aurora Winter Train is a scenic way to explore the Interior. A 12-hour journey from Anchorage to Fairbanks, the train takes passengers through Talkeetna, Denali and Nenana. Bring a camera, and you can catch front-row views of Mount McKinley and the northern lights.
Hoping to travel to warmer climes? McMurren said new nonstop offerings from Alaska Airlines can take travelers from Seattle to New Orleans beginning June 12, Seattle to Tampa beginning June 20 and Seattle to Detroit beginning Sept. 7.
