Matanuska Electric Association says power was restored late Monday afternoon
ANCHORAGE – A power outage left 14,000 Alaskans without electricity for several hours Monday afternoon.
Kevin Brown, a spokesman for Matanuska Electric Association, said the outage started around noon after an equipment failure at a substation north of Eagle River. Utility customers in Eklutna, Eagle River, Birchwood, Chugiak and Peters Creek were left without electricity for several hours.
Power was restored to more than 7,000 customers within two hours of the outage, and Brown said all customers were reconnected by 4:15 p.m.
