Thanksgiving feast feeds hundreds of Anchorage families

By KTVA CBS 11 News 4:55 PM November 21, 2013

Food Bank of Alaska, Children's Lunchbox team up for annual event

ANCHORAGE – Hundreds of Anchorage families gathered at Clark Middle School Thursday for the annual Community Fall Feast.

The meal, provided by the Food Bank of Alaska and the Children’s Lunch Box, is expected to feed about 600 people. Volunteers spent the afternoon setting up tables and chairs and preparing the Mountain View middle school for the event, and said they had enough supplies to fill 1,000 plates. Families flooded the school more than an hour before the meal began.

Youth choirs and local music groups provided entertainment for the evening, and event organizers said it’s an opportunity to give back.

“This time of year, some families don’t have enough to eat, especially a holiday meal,” said Linda Kupers, a program manager for the Children’s Lunchbox. “We just want to bless them.”

The Community Fall Feast begins Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Next week, the food bank will launch its annual Thanksgiving Blessing, distributing holiday meals to thousands of Alaskans throughout Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.
