Tudor Elementary Kindergarten teacher Joanne Christian is starting her students off with the basics — sounding and spelling three letter words and putting together sentences.
“They come in not knowing how to write their name, read their name,” Christian said.
She loves being there for the start of a child’s education.
“I just love that they come in, they may not know anything, they come in as they are. They grow and learn so much in such a short amount of time,” said Christian.
She has been teaching kindergarten for 17 years and describes herself as structured and academic.
She also leads a school-wide reading program called, ‘Spring into Reading,’ in which the PTA donates money to provide one free book every week to a child.
“My goal is to just get books out into the community to make sure kids are reading,” said Christian.
