ANCHORAGE –

Knik falls short in semifinal

San Bernardino, Calif. – The Knik Little Leaguers nearly pulled it off. Down 7-0 to Bend, Ore., Knik rallied to cut the Oregon lead to 7-6 but was unable to push across the tying run in the 6th inning in a Northwest Region Semifinal.

Ian Frizzele singled in a run to cut the lead to 7-5. Knik closed the gap to 7-6 as Ryan Gray advanced home on a stolen base at second. But with the winning run at first, Bend was able to escape the jam.

Softballers take third

Tucson, Ariz. — The 12-14 girls from Anchorage saw their run end in the desert. They were eliminated from their West Regional softball matchup by Fontana (California) 6-5.

At one point the lead was 6-1 as Alaska climbed back in, but the hitting which had been so good to get the girls to Arizona wasn’t there to help them advance. The girls bring home a third place prize and are scheduled to return to Alaska on Saturday.
