AWAIC kicks off Domestic Violence Action Month
Half of the adult women in Alaska will experience domestic violence or sexual assault in their lives. Gov. Bill Walker recognized October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month on Wednesday.
Awareness is a big part of fighting domestic violence and the stigma around it, but this year, AWAIC (Abused Women's Aid In Crisis) is calling for action as well.
KTVA's Megan Mazurek spoke with the group's Executive Director Suzi Pearson about signs of abuse and where victims can turn to seek help.
