Police: Man squeezed girlfriend's neck until she couldn't speak
A woman claims her boyfriend, 30-year-old Lawrence S. McMullen Jr., violently attacked her because she was not ready to get up and leave a tent the two shared near Tudor Road and the New Seward Highway.
"An argument ensued and McMullen kicked the victim in the back when she attempted to reach for a sweater," according to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department.
Police say the fight escalated when McMullen grabbed the woman by the hair to the point the woman says she could hear her hair her ripping out.
"She informed McMullen that she was going to call police; he grabbed her around the neck with one hand. The victim began to scream and McMullen squeezed harder until she could no longer speak," according to police.
Police say McMullen let go of the woman and threatened to harm her if he saw her again. Police say the woman ran to a gas station to call for help.
Police are now asking for the public's help to find the suspect. Anyone with information is asked to call the non-emergency police dispatch number at 311. (Choose option #1). To remain anonymous people can call Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or online at www.anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
