One person died Thursday afternoon and two others were injured in a Mountain View residential fire, according to Anchorage firefighters.

The man killed in the blaze was 80-year-old William Cannon, police said Saturday.

AFD dispatchers received multiple 911 calls at about 2:21 p.m. Thursday reporting a fire on the 300 block of North Lane Street, firefighters said in a statement.

First responders arrived on scene within three minutes to battle the fire with light smoke showing and alarms sounding. While people were evacuating the residence, crews discovered a working fire with someone trapped inside.

"Crews began an aggressive fire attack while conducting a primary search of the apartment complex for any possible victims," AFD wrote. "Crews found one occupant trapped in the fire unit, rescued the occupant and took the individual to waiting EMS crews."

That person, along with two others, were taken to the hospital. Thursday afternoon, AFD confirmed an adult male had died.

There wasn't further word Saturday on the condition of the survivors. No firefighters were hurt.

The blaze was brought under control by 2:39 p.m., AFD officials said. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday, with no word yet on whether it was considered suspicious.
