This week, Grammy-award winning cellist Zuill Bailey and other world-class musicians will put on six concerts featuring modern and classic compositions for the Autumn and Winter Classics Series.

"This is the fifth anniversary of the 'cello-bration' we do in Sitka," Bailey said. "It was a dream of ours to bring great cellists to study in the most beautiful place on the planet, Alaska."

Cellists Cicely Parnas, Jared Blajian and Dr. Melissa Kraut performed a preview piece on Daybreak Wednesday morning. The second week of September is feature the clarinet, jazz-stylings and Don Quixote for Sextet.

"For the two weekends we have everything, something for everybody," Bailey said. "But this, especially this weekend will be particularly interesting because I don't think people realize what cellos can do. It's so much like the human voice in its range. It obviously can play everything from rock 'n' roll to Beethoven, Bach. We'll do it all."

The Autumn and Winter Classics Series is September 7, 8, and 9 and the following weekend September 14, 15, and 16 at the UAA recital hall. To learn more about the concert series, visit its website.
