Anchorage's Central Transfer Station to close temporarily
This will be the last weekend that residents will be able to bring their trash to the city's Central Transfer Station in Midtown Anchorage-- at least for the next few weeks.
Solid Waste Services is closing the facility from August 14 to September 3 for a major remodel that will require both residential and commercial customers to bring their loads to the Anchorage Regional Landfill in Eagle River.
Suzanna Caldwell with Solid Waste Services said the remodel will include replacing the tipping floor where loads are dumped. She said the floor was last replaced in 1999. The commercial scales, which were also installed in the '90s, will be replaced as well.
Caldwell said the Hazardous Waste Collection Center will also be closed at the Midtown location while the remodel is underway. Those customers will have to go to the Regional Landfill, which will open earlier while the Central Transfer Station is closed.
Hours at the Regional Landfill in Eagle River for August 14 through Sept. 3 are:
- Monday through Friday: 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Sunday: Closed
