Local organizations helping families get ready to go back to school
With school starting very soon for many across the state, local businesses and non-profits are doing what they can to help.
Here are a few ways in Southcentral you can help, or find help, getting ready to go back to school.
Hair Science Barbershop
Donate: Any school supplies to the Hair Science Barbershop located at 203 W. 15th Ave. Suite 108.
Pick up: August 19 at 1 p.m. at Hair Science on
Helping Us Give School Supplies (HUGSS)
Donate: Any school supplies to Lutheran Social Services located at 1303 W. 33rd Ave. Open Monday through Friday 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Items must be dropped off by Friday, August 10.
Pick up: Tuesday, August 14 at East High School from 10 a.m.-6 pm.

Stuff the Bus
Donate: United Way of Mat-Su is collecting gently-used clothing items and shoes to be distributed at this year's Stuff the Bus event. You can drop off items at the United Way office in Palmer located at 550 S. Alaska St. Suite 205 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday ‚ Friday. For more information, call 745-5824.
Pick Up: At Stuff the Bus distribution event on Wednesday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Curtis Menard Center. Attendees can fill a backpack with school supplies, access back-to-school services including haircuts, immunizations and school physicals.
