A vehicle crash injured two people, one of them severely, and closed the Glenn Highway outbound for hours Sunday evening near the Northway Mall.

The highway reopened shortly after midnight Monday, according to APD.

APD spokesman MJ Thim said the crash, which also closed Airport Heights' southbound lanes near the intersection, occurred at about 7:15 p.m. The wreck began when an inbound motorcyclist struck a guardrail separating the highway's inbound and outbound lanes.

"The motorcycle goes airborne," Thim wrote. "The motorcyclist and the motorcycle separate. The motorcyclist lands on the outbound lane of the highway. The motorcycle lands on a vehicle stopped at a red light on [Mountain] View Drive waiting to either turn onto the highway or cross over to Airport Heights Drive."

The motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with critical injuries, Thim said, while the vehicle driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area.
