A 33-year-old man died Thursday near Hooper Bay after he reportedly drowned, according to Alaska State Troopers.

An online dispatch on Hooper Bay resident Dennis Hale’s death, on the Tuniurun River between Hooper Bay and Chevak, said troopers were informed just before 7:15 p.m.

“Investigation found that [Hale] passed away while accessing a fishing net in waist deep water,” troopers wrote.

Hale’s next of kin were present, troopers said, and recovered his body.
