A Togiak fisherman was found dead Tuesday, the day after he fell overboard from a nearby fishing vessel.

The body of 39-year-old Anthony Active was discovered at about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, troopers said in an updated online dispatch.

"He had washed up on the beach and was confirmed deceased approximately 7 miles southwest of Togiak," troopers wrote. "Next of kin has been notified and the remains are being transported to Anchorage per [the state medical examiner's office]."

Active had been checking a set net on a 26-foot vessel when he went overboard Monday, troopers said. The other occupant of the boat attempted to rescue Active but also fell in the water, and Active was reported missing to troopers at about 3:15 p.m. that afternoon.

"[The other occupant] was able to make it to shore and wave down a passing fisherman," troopers wrote.

U.S. Coast Guard searchers joined local village police officers, Togiak's search and rescue team and area fishermen in the search.
