What's being done about gangs in Anchorage? It's a community conversation sparked by the city’s latest homicide, a teen-on-teen shooting the suspect attributed to gang rivalry.

Luimariamofoa Polu, 16, has been charged as an adult in the murder of 15-year-old Raynaldo Khotesouvan during the second of two shootings Friday in Mountain View.

Police say Polu told investigators he's a Blood, and even though he'd never seen Khotesouvan before he thought he was a Crip.

Khotesouvan's family strongly denies that claim, saying he was never part of any gang.

Through the Anchorage Safe Streets Task Force, led by the FBI, police and Alaska State Troopers work together to combat gang violence.

In an interview with APD, Lt. Jack Carson gives his take on the current climate of gang activity in Anchorage, explains youth fascination with gangs, and tells parents what red flags they should look out for.

If you think you're noticing gang activity, contact APD at 311.
