Alaska State Troopers say one person is dead and another wounded after masked men broke into a North Pole home and fired on the occupants.

Troopers responded to a report about shots fired at Gianna’s Court, just after 8 a.m. on Sunday, according to troopers online dispatch. When troopers arrived at the residence, they found two men with gunshot wounds.

"The two men, who resided at the residence, were confronted by two masked males who barged in and ultimately fired upon them," troopers wrote. "After the shooting, the two unknown men fled."

Both victims were rushed to the hospital. One of them died from their injuries later that afternoon, troopers say.

Troopers identified the surviving victim as Wayne Daniel, 50, of North Pole. He is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The dead man hasn't yet been identified, pending next of kin notification.

No suspect information has been released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing.
