The Anchorage Fire Department says smoke and flames took over a building near Midtown early Thursday morning.

Sixteen units were called to fight the fire located on the 6000-block of Nielsen Way, near Arctic Boulevard and Dowling Road, just before 5 a.m., according to AFD.

Battalion Captain John Booher said the call came in as a commercial structure fire. When they got there, they saw the building had offices up front with bay doors in the back.

The inside looks very damaged, Booher said.

The fire was under control by 5:12 a.m. No victims were found inside the building and no one was hurt, AFD said.

A neighbor said there were rumors circulating of an after hours, underground gambling game that went on in the building and included drugs.

Police and FBI responded to the building last week to make arrests for a reported drug bust, the neighbor said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
