Burn ban remains in place through July 4
The Anchorage Fire Department says open fires in the muni are prohibited due to very high-extreme fire danger.
While open fires are prohibited, barbecue grills and enclosed pellet grills are allowed; however, portable outdoor fireplaces are not permitted.
The burn ban was instituted Tuesday, but AFD said on Independence Day that significant moisture would be needed for the ban to be lifted.
AFD also notes that burn permits are no longer available for spruce bark beetle slash.
The daily burn ban is determined by assessing several factors, including air quality, wind speeds, and AFD's ability to respond.
