For many Alaskans, Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start to summer. However, the true meaning of Memorial Day is to remember and honor the fallen who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. 

Here's a list of events across Anchorage where you can pay your respects. 

Anchorage Remembers: Memorial Day Ceremony

The Anchorage Remembers: Memorial Day event is a one-hour ceremony where you can honor and remember the men and women made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the country they love. 

The event includes patriotic music, spiritual words and laying of the wreaths.

  • Time: 9:30 a.m. 
  • FREE to the public

JBER Memorial Day Ceremony

Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is remembering the fallen with music by the Midnight Sons Chorus. There will also be a rifle salute.

  • Fort Richardson National Cemetery
  • Monday, May 28
  • Time: Preliminary music at 11:30 a.m.
    • Service begins at noon
  • FREE to the public

Note -- No animals will be permitted unless they are service animals. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. Picnics are not allwoed on the grounds. 

Memorial Day Car Show

Car lovers come on down to the Northway mall for the 14th annual Anchorage Corvette Association Car Show

This event is open to all cars. Honor Flight veterans and guardians will be there to visit participants and guests. 

All proceeds made during the show benefit the Last Frontier Honor Flight.

ICOAA Memorial Day Picnic

Monday marks the Imperial Court of All Alaska's 50th annual Memorial Day Picnic and the 1st annual kickball tournament. 

Food includes a hot dog and burger bar. Games include egg-toss, gigantic Jenga, water balloon-toss and of course, kickball!

The event is free to the public, however, attendees are asked to bring a few bucks for the food.

2018 Annual Memorial Day Cook Out

Anchorage Dry Dock is hosting its annual Cookout at the Dry Dock. The event is free and open to the public.
