A 57-year-old inmate died Wednesday while in custody of the Department of Corrections.

Staff members found inmate Leslie Aveoganna unresponsive on the third floor of the building, according to Alaska State Troopers' online dispatch.

Nikiski first responders made attempts to revive Aveoganna, however, they were unsuccessful.

"The cause of death is under investigation; there are no immediate signs of foul play or suicide," DOC spokesperson Megan Edge wrote in a statement Wednesday.

The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy.

Aveoganna has been at the facility since September 23, 2015, for a kidnapping conviction.

His death marks DOC's third death in 2018.
