A 6-year-old child is recovering from injuries suffered after being struck by a drunk driver riding a 4-wheeler, authorities say.

Joanne Leopold, 40, of Alakanuk was driving under the influence of alcohol on Monday when she struck the child on a bicycle, Alaska State Troopers wrote in an online dispatch.

A caller reported the incident to troopers who then requested the Alakanuk Police Department respond.

Troopers say the child had minor injuries.

Leopold was arrested on assault and driving under the influence charges. She was taken to the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center.
