The owners of one of Anchorage's oldest greenhouses want their customers to know it's business, as usual, this season despite putting the property on the market three years ago.

Sutton's Brown Thumb Greenhouse on Tudor Road is a family-owned business that dates back to 1963. Sisters Anna and Patty Sutton purchased it from their parents in 1991 and have been running it together ever since.

Anna said both she and her sister have had health problems and are more than ready to retire from the seven-days-a-week operation. But, despite several offers, financing has fallen through for every potential buyer.

Anna says the greenhouse is now fully stocked but business is slow. Even loyal customers seem surprised to learn they are still open.

She said the Greenhouse is open from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
