This year, Denali Whitted and five of her Houston High School teammates are in a league of their own. Of course, it's a league they didn't expect.

Whitted and the five ladies are playing on the boys' soccer team. Not enough girls tried out for their squad, so a handful of them are on the pitch with the guys.

"I was really excited because boys play a lot tougher, and I like to get in it a little bit," she said.

As an athlete, it comes with her territory. She's also the placekicker for the school's football team. Denali plays volleyball and basketball, too. Both of those sports are with the girls.

But the sophomore is also stellar in the classroom. She holds a 3.7 GPA. College may be a ways off, but she has her eye on the bigger picture.

"I want to get into college, play soccer. So, they're important. I've got to get my grades up so I can get into a good college."

She continues her athletic and academic excellence. The past two seasons, Denali was named Houston's best female athlete.
