A Wasilla woman is facing theft charges after she allegedly stole a dog from an animal shelter in Palmer, authorities say.

According to Alaska State Troopers' online dispatch, 25-year-old Lela Ferstenau was arrested Saturday after she was found at the Petco in Wasilla with a dog that was reported stolen from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Animal Shelter.

Troopers received the report on Thursday night.

"A check of [the] video revealed a female stole the dog out of the kennels during the night," troopers wrote.

The dog was returned unharmed to its owner.

Troopers say Ferstenau's charges are being forwarded to the Palmer District Attorney's Office.
