A Fairbanks man is behind bars for allegedly fleeing troopers while drunk and assaulting an officer.

Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI report (Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately) around 5:30 Sunday stating the driver of a green Chevy truck appeared to be intoxicated.

The vehicle was located near milepost 360 of the Richardson Highway, and troopers say the man refused to stop and led authorities on a high-speed chase, continuing up the Steese Highway and ending in Shannon Park at the suspect's home.

Troopers say during the pursuit, the man committed multiple moving violations and endangered several pedestrians with his reckless driving.

The suspect then barricaded himself inside a camper on his property for more than an hour, troopers say, but was ultimately convinced to exit and was taken into custody-- but not before assaulting a trooper.

The suspect, 40-year-old Joshua Schloesser, was arrested and charged with evade/elude, two counts of third-degree assault, fourth-degree assault, reckless driving and DUI.
