Arrest made in deadly Fairbanks shooting
UPDATE (04/21/2018): Fairbanks police have now arrested a man they say shot and killed Todd James Demoski early Friday morning.
The suspect is 21-year-old Leron Kwase Roland of Las Vegas. Police say he was found in a home off the Parks Highway. Roland is now being held in the Fairbanks Correctional Center on charges of Murder in the First Degree.
ORIGINAL STORY: Fairbanks police investigating a fatal shooting overnight Thursday are asking residents to report any suspicious activity in the downtown area.
Police named the victim Friday afternoon as 25-year-old Todd James Demoski.
Officers were called at about 3 a.m. Friday to a “weapons incident” at the Alaskan Motor Inn on 419 4th Ave., police spokeswoman Yumi McCulloch wrote in a statement.
“Upon arrival, officers made contact with a male victim that was suffering from a gunshot wound,” McCulloch wrote. “The male victim was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital and unfortunately died from his injuries.”
Police are pursuing “a number of leads” in the case. McCulloch said no suspect descriptions were available Friday from investigators.
The inn also figured in another Fairbanks homicide last year, when footprints from the Oct. 31 College Road stabbing of 40-year-old Armagan Idil led investigators there. Sheldon Charles Wolfe, 26, was arrested at the inn on second-degree murder charges in the case, which police said was the result of a fight.
Anyone with information regarding downtown-area activity Thursday night or between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. Friday is asked to call Fairbanks police at 907-450-6500.
