Anchorage Police patrol units were out in force over the weekend as Spring Carnival attendees flocked to Girdwood's Alyeska Resort to enjoy a beautiful, sunny weekend in the mountains.

Six additional APD patrols were tasked with traffic enforcement along the Turnagain Arm over the weekend, and as APD warned, they were watching.

From Friday through Saturday, officers made 147 traffic stops between Anchorage and Ingram Creek. A total of 83 citations were issued. Of those, 22 were for speeding.

The speeding citations ranged from $85 to $2350! As police reminded ahead of the Spring Carnival, the New Seward Highway is considered a safety corridor, and as such, citations are doubled. So, how does one earn a $2350 speeding ticket? By going 104 in a 65mph-zone.

APD would also like to remind folks that even when you're overtaking a vehicle in a legal passing zone, the speed limits are still enforced.
